Fun Things to Do on Father's Day

Celebrate dad with these fun activities happening in Minneapolis!

Soak up the Sun at Stone Arch Bridge Festival

Hang out on Minneapolis’ iconic Stone Arch Bridge and enjoy this outdoor annual celebration. From shopping, to live music, to art and delicious food, there’s an activity for every type of dad at the Stone Arch Bridge Festival. Make sure to attend a Father’s Day tradition, The Art of the Car Show, where car collectors get show off the classics. While you are in the area check out what else there is to do around Minneapolis.

Father’s day weekend is jammed packed with Minneapolis events. If you want to spend a few extra days with dad, check out Northern Spark, Rock the Garden, and Juneteenth all happening in the days leading up to Father’s day.

Cheer on the Defending Champs

The Lynx will be in town for a game against the New York Liberty on Saturday June 16th. While it’s technically the day before Father’s day, if your dad is a basketball fan, then watching a 4-time championship team take the court is probably the perfect way to enjoy some quality time together. This game is also Pride Night presented by Xcel Energy, so the purchase of a ticket also gets you special access to a Pride Night Celebration before the game at Kieran’s Irish Pub.

Spend the day at the Zoo

Introduce dad to some wild new friends at the Minnesota Zoo. All dads get free admission for the annual Cub Food’s Father’s Day Event. There will also be special deals on merchandise and IMAX Theatre admission.

Mini-golf with a View

The Walker Art Museum is back with its one-of-a-kind mini-golf course hosted on its outdoor terrace. If one of dad’s favorite places to be is on the golf course, this is the perfect family activity. Take in amazing views of the Minneapolis skyline while putting your way through 10 unique, artist designed holes.

Go for a Run

Looking for a fun and healthy activity with dad? There are two major runs happening on Father’s day.

Ugly Tie 5K: Search the back of the closet for dad’s most “unique” ties and head out to the Star Tribune Father’s day ugly tie 5k. This fun run will be held along the scenic and historic Mississippi riverfront in downtown Minneapolis. So, while your tie may be an eyesore the views during your run will certainly not be. In addition to the 5K race there will be a kids .5K run followed by live music, snacks and great prizes at Father Hennepin Park. All finishers receive a medal and all participants receive a performance tee.

The Gridiron Gallop: Have a dad that “only bleeds purple”? Here’s his chance to hang out with some famous Minnesota Vikings. This annual event is hosted by former Viking Chad Greenway and his wife Jenni and raises money for the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. A perfect Family-friendly event, the Girdiron Gallop is a 5k run that starts and ends at Lake Nakomis Main Beach.  After the run enjoy beautiful views of Lake Nakomis where you’ll have the opportunity to get autographs and pictures of Minnesota Vikings players and cheerleaders.

Catch a Musical Performance

With two popular musicals showing at well-known Twin Cities theaters you may not be able to stop dad from belting out a few notes of his favorite tunes. Even if your dad doesn’t have the greatest voice it’s worth spending the day at the Guthrie Theater for a showing of the iconic American musical, West Side Story or at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre to see a high-energy performance of Disney’s Newsies.

Take Advantage of Food Specials

Treat your dad to a hearty meal at one of these restaurants offering brunch or dinner deals just for Father’s Day. Steaks, beer and even German cuisine you’ve got quite a few options to impress dad.
