Tank and the Bangas

New Orleans collective Tank and the Bangas first reached a wider audience by winning NPR’s 2017 Tiny Desk Contest with “Quick,” a showcase for the group’s playful, poetry-inflected approach. Fronted by singer and spoken-word artist Tarriona “Tank” Ball, the band moves between soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz and rock. Its album Red Balloon earned a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album, and The Heart, The Mind, The Soul won the 2025 Grammy for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album.
