SML
SML is a who’s who of the LA experimental music scene: bassist Anna Butterss, synthesist Jeremiah Chiu, saxophonist Josh Johnson, percussionist Booker Stardrum, and guitarist Gregory Uhlmann. Grounded in improvisation, the quintet overlays complex polyrhythms with psychedelic fluidity and telepathic synchronicity. They channel the playful energy of Yellow Magic Orchestra–era techno-pop as much as they do the thronging energy of Sextant-era Herbie Hancock. For this show, the must-see live band will perform in a special in-the-round setup at the Cedar.
