John Gorka
John Gorka’s “I’m from New Jersey” captures the wit and plainspoken insight that mark his songwriting. A leading voice in the New Folk movement, he won the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk award in 1984 and went on to build a four-decade career in folk music. His songs include “The Water Is Wide,” “I Saw a Stranger with Your Hair” and “Love Is Our Cross to Bear”; his 2025 album, unentitled, continues a catalog shaped by folk, blues and bluegrass influences.
