90-Second Newbery Film Festival
The 15th annual 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is a video contest in which kid filmmakers create weird movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery-winning books in about 90 seconds. Every year, the best movies are shown at gala screenings all over the country—co-hosted by founder/author James Kennedy and other great children’s authors—-in New York, Chicago, Boston, San Antonio, and many more cities. Mr. Kennedy's Minneapolis co-host is Minnesota's own Jacqueline West, author of the NYT-bestselling middle grade series Books of Elsewhere and the forthcoming YA horror novel Black Point! At this year's event, you'll see the best submissions from Minnesota and around the country. Check out Last Stop on Market Street as a zombie apocalypse, Doctor DeSoto as an E.R.-type hospital drama, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH as a musical, and more! Kids, families, lovers of weird cinema, this show will knock your socks off! AND IT'S FREE.
