Mall of America Visitor's Guide
Mall of America is just 15 minutes from downtown Minneapolis and only a few minutes from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport!
Recognized as the largest shopping and entertainment complex in the United States and one of the most visited tourist attractions on the globe, the Mall of America receives roughly 40 million visitors a year. Located just 15 minutes from Downtown Minneapolis, MOA boasts more than 520 stores, 60 restaurants, Nickelodeon Universe (a 7-acre indoor amusement park), SEA LIFE Aquarium, a comedy club, world-class gaming and entertainment centers, the LEGO Store, mini-golf and tons of other family attractions and nightlife options.
Mall of America just celebrated its 25th anniversary. Many things can be credited for its longevity, including being literally across the street from a major international airport (and Delta Airlines hub), roughly 25 million people living within an eight hour drive, and no sales tax on clothing and shoes in the State of Minnesota. That there are two hotels attached to MOA, more than 50 nearby hotels (with free shuttles to the Mall) and free Wi-Fi make extended stays extremely appealing.
Here’s what you’ll need to know to make the most of your visit to Mall of America in Minnesota:
It’s easy to access the mall from both downtown Minneapolis and the airport. One of the most convenient ways to travel to the Mall of America is by light rail. This service connects downtown Minneapolis, the Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport, and the Mall of America and it’s simple to use! Many hotels also offer free shuttle service between the airport and the mall - so be sure to check with your hotel. An uber from the airport to the mall is less than $13 and typically takes no more than 10 minutes. How’s that for convenience?

Make it a weekend in Minneapolis, we know you’ll have more fun.
Major department stores, fashion retailers, home goods, local shops, the Mall has it all! Fashion lovers can pick up the latest trends from well-known brands and high-end designers. Find local, artisan items from Love From Minnesota and other shops and kiosks. From department stores (Macy’s, Nordstrom, Sears), luxury goods (Swarovski, Vera Bradly, Michael Kors), fashion (Abercrombie & Fitch, Ann Taylor, Burberry), tech (Apple, Microsoft, Best Buy, Bose), games (Air Traffic) and specialty food (VOM FASS, Cheese Brothers), we aren’t kidding when we say they have everything. Oh, and did we mention all clothing and shoes are tax-free? That’s right, no taxes on clothing!
Plan out your stops with the mall’s store directory.
The eating situation at MOA is, quite simply, awesome. Walking around one level of the Mall one time will clock you in at a little over a mile so it’s likely you’ll work up an appetite. Among the many sit-down restaurants and two major food courts are Cedar + Stone (upscale farm-to-table), Benihana (Japanese ), Cantina Laredo (Mexican), Burger Burger, Firelake Grill House (Minnesota-inspired farm-to-table), CRAVE (American, sushi), Freshii (healthy fast casual), Hard Rock Café, Piada Italian Street Food, Rainforest Café, Shake Shack, Tim Horton’s and much more. Global flavors are around every corner.
Mall of America offers nonstop fun for your family. Have you ever been to a mall with a seven-acre indoor theme park? Nickelodeon Universe® features 27 rides, the longest indoor zip line in the country and FlyOver America, a breathtaking, 4D, multi-sensory tour around the U.S. Also inside the park is the LEGO store, which has a play area and multiple giant LEGO sculptures to admire.
SEA LIFE Minnesota has more than 10,000 creatures immersed in 1.3 million gallons of water, including a 300-foot aquarium tunnel, a stingray petting pool and even the opportunity to snorkel and scuba among exotic sea life.
SMAAASH gaming and entertainment center combines virtual reality and sports into an experience that kids, adults and adults with kid sensibilities can enjoy together. Attractions include a two-level go-kart track, a robot-defended hockey goalie shootout (with prizes!) and virtual reality activities like a haunted hospital tour and a plank walk between two skyscrapers. The Escape Game is a great way to practice teamwork. Choose from a handful of scenarios in which together you must test your problem solving skills to free yourself from the themed room before time is up!
For the little ones, there's Crayola Experience, 60,000 square feet of hands-on activities, like making personalized crayon wraps, a coloring book selfie station and melted crayon art, and American Girl Minneapolis, which has its own bistro and doll hair salon! The Moose Mountain Adventure Golf course and the nearby Mirror Maze are both classic, all-ages activities that are, trust us, far more difficult than they seem.
