W.A. Frost and Company has been a staple for fine dining on the historic Cathedral Hill in St. Paul since 1975. With their prime location and cozy atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot to grab a bite or a cocktail and marvel at the lush furnishings and stunning woodwork.
The current W.A. Frost was originally the Richardsonian Romanesque Dacotah building, and soon turned into a pharmacy by W.A. Frost in 1880. Frost was one of the creators of the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, and his business carried on for an additional 20 years after his passing in 1930. As the Cathedral Hill area went into decline, the pharmacy closed with little hope for restoration. Luckily in 1974, the Rupp family saw the marvel that this building truly was and soon opened W.A. Frost and Company. A major re-development of the area soon followed.
A chilly winter evening is best spent cozying up at W.A. Frost with a beverage and close company. Grab a glass of wine from their extensive wine menu and get comfortable in their plush chairs while the sunshine peaks through the windows and makes the room sparkle. Warm up by the fire place and nibble on one of their artisan cheese plates, complete with fruits, nuts and other seasonal delights. Their eclectic furniture and oriental rugs will make you feel like you haven’t left your living room, and their outstanding menu and impeccable service will have you feeling like the guest of honor.
When the temperatures get a little warmer, the patio opens up and is a hot spot for happy hour, late evening dinners and weekend brunch. Greenery makes its way throughout courtyard and the beautiful brick, comfy chairs and bustling firepit are sure to charm. Share a few small plates, or choose from a variety of sandwiches, salads, seafood and steaks. They even have a number of gluten free items for those with allergy restrictions.
