Stone Arch Bridge

One of the most iconic landmarks in Minneapolis, the Stone Arch Bridge is a former railroad bridge that crosses the Mississippi River and connects you to some of the most beautiful parts of the city. Start at the Guthrie Theater and admire the stunning architecture. Head to Mill City Museum to see the ruins and learn about the infamous mill explosion of 1878. Catch the Mill City Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. Then, head across the Stone Arch Bridge to get breathtaking views of the downtown skyline, the Mississippi River and the natural beauty that you typically don’t find within a city.

On the other end of the bridge, you’ll find St. Anthony Main, a pocket of Northeast Minneapolis and the oldest part of the city. Walk down the cobblestone road and find plenty of patio drinkers, movie-goers and people-watchers. Take a stroll down to Water Power Park and find a gorgeous view of the River and St. Anthony Falls with a striking backdrop of the skyline. If you’re feeling more adventurous, head over to Father Hennepin Bluff Park and walk out onto the footpaths and bridges to get a close-up of the Mississippi and Stone Arch Bridge.

Fun Fact: The Stone Arch is the only arched bridge made of stone on the entire length of the Mississippi River. Who knew? Go see for yourself why this is a Minneapolis must-see destination.

*Note: The downtown Minneapolis side of the Stone Arch Bridge will be closed to begin preparation work for the restoration and repairs that will occur spring through fall 2025. Access under the Portland Ave. portion of the bridge will also be closed. Pedestrians and bicyclists can still walk or bike to the middle of the bridge.
