LGBTQ Events and Sports
Minneapolis hosts the largest free pride parade in the nation. The first Twin Cities pride event was held in downtown Minneapolis in 1972 and today draws crowds of nearly 400,000 people.
Listen to Twin Cities Pride Executive Director Dot Belstler talk about the festival. Many of our professional sports teams host special pride night events. In 2017, the Minnesota Vikings will be the first NFL team to host a LGBTQ symposium. We also host many LGBTQ and LGBTQ-friendly sporting events including:
- Unity Basketball league
- Minnesota Aids Trek (biking)
- Alliance of Minnesota Gay & Lesbian Bowlers
- Twin Cities Gay Hockey Association
- Outwoods (Outdoor Recreational)
- North Star Gay Rodeo Association
