Two lovers battle ghoulish desire on the windswept moors of Scotland, threatened by shadows of darkness and mysterious powers. PETER MOORE and VERN SUTTON, the dynamic duo of that scored Showboat hits The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, andThe Count of Monte Cristo, join forces once again this one-of-a-kind evening of family entertainment juxtaposing melodrama with song and dance routines. When asked what can audiences expect in THE VAMPIRE! Director Moore quipped, Sword fights, shipwrecks, gods and goddesses turn-of-the- century staging, my goodness what more could you expect from a night at the theater? Where else can you cheer on the hero and hiss the bad guy?
The Showboat also prides itself as home to olios, vintage musical interludesfeaturing song and dance. Spiced with fun gimmicks, colorful costumes and surprises, these tuneful crowd- pleasers are straight from the golden days of vaudeville. Directed by the Minnesota Opera veteran, the always imaginative Vern Sutton, who returns to create this years olios will include Wont You Come Home Bill Baily?,Im Forever BlowingBubbles, and The Lost Chord performed on a human organ! Audiences are encouraged to join in an occasional sing-a-long number just like the old days of variety shows.
