TWIN CITIES IN MOTION AND PARTNERS RAISE
$789,382 IN CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS IN 2013
ST. PAUL, MINN. MARCH 20, 2014 Twin Cities In Motion (TCM), together with its Community Partners and Charity Program teams, raised $789,382 for charity in 2013, topping its 2012 fundraising total. The organization, which produces 21 race events annually for all ages and abilities -- including the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon -- has a mission of promoting healthy lifestyles through running events and community outreach.
Just as we like to leave our race courses better than we found them, it is part of our mission at Twin Cities in Motion to make our community better in tangible ways every year, said Virginia Brophy Achman, executive director of Twin Cities In Motion.
More than half of the money $467,940 was raised by runners who used the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon to fundraise for a variety of charities and causes, using race entries and pledges to gather funds. Some runners participated on the marathons twenty-five charity teams; others raised funds separately through Crowdrise, Razoo, or other sites.
Twin Cities In Motion gave $275,145 to support a variety of projects, many focused on Twin Cities youth. Twin Cities In Motion provides free race entries to kids in need, donates new shoes to high school track and field athletes, and has a scholarship program for college-bound athletes. TCM also partners with Bolder Options, Girls on the Run, MIGIZI Communications and the YWCA of Minneapolis to promote health and fitness not only through their youth programs, but also through their reach into areas of the Twin Cities most in need of resources. TCM also donated $10,000 to support One Fund Boston in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings.
Our runners can feel good that a portion of their race dollars go directly back into the communities they live in, helping their neighbors live healthier and more satisfying lives, Twin Cities In Motion President Charlie Fazio said.
In addition to monetary donations, TCM donated nearly 25,000 pounds of food to the Emergency Foodshelf Network. TCM also donated more than 3,600 pounds of clothing from runners who dropped extra layers near the starting line of its races.
