The Mavericks Play the State Theatre March 19.
MINNEAPOLIS—The Mavericks, the electrifying, Grammy Award-winning band featuring lead singer Raul Malo, return to Minneapolis with their rollicking mix of pop, rock, Latin lounge music and post-modern country. Just nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award for Best American Roots Song for All Night Long on the album Mono), The Mavericks will perform at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Hennepin Theatre Trust’s State Theatre, 805 Hennepin Ave., Mpls. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015. To purchase or for more information visit HennepinTheatreTrust.org or call 1.800.982.2787.
The Mavericks have been globetrotting since last February on the “Mono Mundo World Tour,” promoting Mono, their hot follow-up to the critically acclaimed album In Time (2013). The result of a long-awaited reunion, In Time topped critics’ “Best Of” lists from The Boston Globe to NPR, the Los Angeles Times and New York Magazine, and led to appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CBS This Morning Saturday and a PBS Special. The Mavericks’ music has also been featured in the film Grudge Match and on ABC’s hit series Nashville.
The Mavericks’ garage band ferocity, raucous, dance-inspiring sound and intense live performances are led by Cuban-American Raul Malo, whose rich, supple voice has been compared to that of Roy Orbison. He joins forces with the abundant talents of Paul Deakins on drums, long-time collaborator Jerry Dale McFadden on keyboards and the seasoned Eddie Perez on guitar.
In concert, The Mavericks showcase an infectious energy and eclectic sound. With favorite hits like “Crying Shame,” “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down” and “Dance the Night Away,” they thrive on a deep love of romance, border-breaking and polyrhythmic beats. The Mavericks formed in Miami and have since won multiple industry awards in prestigious categories like Vocal Group and Album of the Year including Country Vocal Group of the Year in 1995 and 1996 and a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group in 1995. Their catalog now spans more than 20 years. For tour dates and more, visit themavericksband.com.
