STADIUM CONSTRUCTION REACHES NEW MILESTONE
The last of 1,200 vertical concrete columns poured
MINNEAPOLIS, MN - MAY 21, 2015 - The new Minnesota stadium announced another major milestone today - the pouring of the last vertical concrete column on the stadium site. Over the last 16 months, 10,000 concrete trucks poured over 1,200 concrete columns, which culminated in yesterday's final column. Each concrete truck delivers 10 cubic yards of concrete. The columns are made up of 17,597 cubic yards of concrete. If put end to end, the columns would be 5.3 miles long. The stadium project will use over 100,000 cubic yards of concrete by the time it is finished.
The new Minnesota stadium is scheduled to open in July of 2016. The building will have 1.75 million square feet, and have 65,400 seats, expandable to 72,000 for the Super Bowl. The new Minnesota stadium will have the 5 of the world's largest operable doors, and the largest expanse of ETFE (transparent) roof in North America.
