Minneapolis (May 15, 2018) – Sports Minneapolis, powered by Meet Minneapolis, is pleased to announce it has secured, along with partner Minnesota United FC, the rights to host two matches of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup at Allianz Field next year.
The biennial tournament featuring 16 teams of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) is the top prize for national teams in this region of the world. Four teams, to be announced at a later date, will bring an international fan base to the Twin Cities, expected to fill hotels in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. The tournament is also expected to draw millions of television viewers.
Allianz Field, the future home of the Minnesota United FC, will be easily accessible to Minneapolis fans via Metro Transit’s Green Line and the Snelling Avenue stop.
