‘SKATE THE STAR’ ICE RINK RETURNS TO MALL OF AMERICA AFTER SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR RAISING $86,000 FOR BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF THE TWIN CITIES
BLOOMINGTON, MN— December 2, 2019
Back by popular demand, Mall of America® is excited to announce the return of SKATE THE STAR ice rink. Built around the iconic star sculpture at the North entrance, the 12,000 square-foot ice rink will once again be located at the North entrance to Mall of America and will be open to the public December 14 through February 2.
“Last year we saw the magic of Minnesota winters come to life through the 23,000 guests who came out to Skate the Star at Mall of America,” said Jill Renslow, SVP of Marketing and Business Development for Mall of America. “We are thrilled to see thousands more lace up their skates with us this winter season and look forward to partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities once again to help support all the amazing work they do for the community.”
Skate the Star, presented by Medica and TCF Bank, will be free and open to the public during select Mall hours. Guests are welcome to use their own skates, or skate rentals will be available for $5 with 100 percent of skate rental proceeds going directly to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities (BGCTC). Funds raised from skate rentals will help the BGCTC provide activities and support to more than 9,000 young people in kindergarten through graduation from high school. Last year, Skate the Star raised more than $86,000 for BGCTC.
“The Boys & Girls Clubs are honored to once again be the nonprofit partner of Skate the Star at Mall of America,” said Terryl Brumm, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities. “With the success of raising $86,000 for BGCTC last year, we can’t wait to be a part of this special Holiday tradition for the second year and are excited to continue sharing the stories of our incredible young people.”
Skate the Star is constructed by local company Minnesota Ice. The rink will be built using 18,000 gallons of water.
