Minneapolis, Minn. – March 19, 2016 – Ben Sathre of Chaska and Lauren Rice of Minneapolis won this morning’s Hot Dash 10 Mile, presented by Fleet Feet Marathon Sports, both setting event records on the Minneapolis riverfront course.

Sathre, a former University of St. Thomas star, ran 50:59 to win the men’s title. Rice, an Augsburg College standout, clocked 1:00:19 for the women’s title. The pair earned $500 each for their winning efforts.

Rounding out the top-three in the men’s competition were Dan Docherty of St. Paul, runner-up in 51:17 and Trevor Zimak of Thunder Bay, third in 52:00.

“I was hoping to go right around 50 – five-minute pace – but, you know, you wake up, you see snow on the ground and everything changes,” Sathre said at the finish line. “So then, I said, you know what, I’m just going to go by feel. But, I’m happy with it. It’s a good start to the season.”

Rounding out the women’s top three were Aileen Cole of Minneapolis, runner-up in 1:02:43, and Jayne Cole of St. Paul, third in 1:05:27.

“There weren’t any other women around me, but there were a lot of guys around me, so that was nice, at least I could see someone the whole time,” Rice said. “It was pretty windy in the first half, but it was so great running in the pack. I was trying to get a really nice hard effort in, so the race went super well for me.”

In the event’s 5K race, Andrea Rediger of Minneapolis topped all runners in a women’s event record 17:23. Scott Richnavsky of Maple Grove won the men’s title in 17:24.

More than 3600 runners competed in the races, which took place after an early morning snow shower that kept the temperature near 30 degrees for much of the morning. In keeping with the event’s Minnesota-based theme, the race, staged at Father Hennepin Bluffs Park along the Minneapolis riverfront, featured post-race hotdish, a winter beard and lumberjack costume contest, and hundreds of runners dressed in plaid flannel.

“It was a great day to kick off the spring racing season and celebrate all things Minnesota,” Twin Cities In Motion Executive Director Virginia Brophy Achman said. “The staff and our volunteers enjoy organizing an event that runners of all paces are excited about.”

Twin Cities In Motion’s next event is the Medtronic TC 1 Mile held near the Guthrie Theater and Gold Medal Park in Minneapolis on Thursday evening, May 12.
