RTTC CELEBRATES NATIONAL REBUILDING MONTH
Local nonprofit will partner with The Opus Group® at Four Project Sites in Saint Paul
WHAT: In honor of National Rebuilding Month, Rebuilding Together Twin Cities (RTTC) will partner with The Opus Group (Opus) volunteers to provide critical repairs for three low-income homeowners in Saint Paul on Friday, April 24. The crew will also work with students at the Farnsworth Aerospace 5-8 Campus on a variety of school improvements. This is the third year in a row that RTTC has partnered with Opus. National Rebuilding Month is a nationwide call to provide safe and healthy homes for low-income homeowners and families across the country. Projects for the day include:
? Bills Home in Saint Paul: Bill has spent his entire life in the home his father built. Bill used to work as an ER medical assistant before he became blind in 1984 due to a hereditary condition. Although Bill remains very positive, he struggles to maintain the condition of his home.
? Tasks to be completed: Preventing water seepage by correcting the yard slope and re-caulking the foundation seams with concrete; reinforcing a wall; caulking around windows; and constructing raised garden beds.
? Lois Home in Saint Paul: Lois has lived in her North End neighborhood home for the past 50 years. As an active member of the community, she has always taken great pride in the appearance of her home, but is struggling to keep it up as she gets older.
? Tasks to be completed: Replacing the garage roof; repairing exterior stucco; installing a bathroom fan and window; and painting several rooms.
? Roberts Home in Saint Paul: After a fall several years ago, Robert had trouble with the use of his hands and legs and was forced into early retirement. Roberts home requires a variety of repairs if he is to remain living there, but he is unable to perform them by himself.
? Tasks to be completed: Reinforcing the bedroom floor; installing a bathroom fan; replacing the kitchen sink; repairing the garage roof; replacing porch decking; and painting the exterior.
? Farnsworth Aerospace PreK-4 Campus: The Home of Future Leaders, Farnsworth Aerospace is a 5-8 School that allows each student to grow in Reading and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Aerospace and Mathematics). More than 86 percent of 5-8 students receive free or reduced lunch and more than 42 percent are enrolled in English Language Learning.
? Tasks to be completed: Decorating rooms with space-themed decals; assisting teachers with aerospace/engineering methodology; working with students on Science Fair project preparation; and performing general landscaping.
WHEN: Friday, April 24 from 8:30 a.m. 4 p.m.
WHERE: Project locations vary, please contact for specific addresses.
