Ringo Starr, Maria Bamford, and More: Ordway Center for the Performing Arts to Welcome Concerts and Comedy this Fall
ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 11, 2018) — This fall, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts will present 10 different music, improv and comedy performances as part of its 2018-2019 Concerts and Comedy programming. Shows will range from standup comedians like Maz Jobrani and Maria Bamford to legendary musicians like Ringo Starr and Gladys Knight.
“Alice Cooper kicked off this season’s Concerts and Comedy programming with a bang in August and this phenomenal lineup will continue the Ordway momentum into the fall,” said Jamie Grant, Ordway president and CEO. “This series celebrates the artistry of a diverse range of musicians and comedians – each legends in their own right. Whether it’s standup or improv, an intimate performance or a rock concert, we are thrilled to invite these artists to our stages to share their unique stories.”
Gipsy Kings
Thursday, September 13
The Grammy Award-winning Gipsy Kings will transport Ordway patrons to the south of France with the band’s dance-ready melding of flamenco, rumba, salsa, and pop music. With more than 20 million albums sold and their music featured in everything from The Big Lebowski to Toy Story 3, the Gipsy Kings have broken music barriers by climbing both U.S. and world music charts. This show will also include a performance by the music duo PARK88.
Whose Live Anyway?
Sunday, September 16
A few days later, the current cast members of the Emmy-nominated television show Whose Line Is It Anyway? will take their new improv tour, Whose Live Anyway?, to Saint Paul. Completely improvised, this comedy show will be filled with games, scenes and songs based on audience suggestions.
Maz Jobrani
Saturday, September 22
In late September, Iranian American comedian Maz Jobrani will bring his hilarious standup to the Ordway. Having performed at venues around the globe, Jobrani has had four standup comedy specials with his most recent, Immigrant, now available on Netflix. Local comedian Miss Shannan Paul will open for this show.
Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band
Sunday, September 23
Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band will take the Ordway stage for an evening of hit after hit through the decades. Every Ringo and His All Starr Band show features each band member bringing to the set
their most popular songs. In addition to Ringo, who performs "all the songs you know and love," the 2018 All Starr Band includes Colin Hay ("Who Can It be Now," "Land Down Under"), Steve Lukather ("Africa," "Hold The Line," "Roseanna"), Gregg Rolie ("Black Magic Woman," "Evil Ways") and new member Graham Gouldman of 10cc ("I’m Not In Love," "Things We Do For Love"). On percussion and sax will be Warren Ham and on drums, Gregg Bissonette.
Classic Albums Live presents Queen – A Night at the Opera

Ordway audiences will enjoy the beloved music of British rock band Queen played by Classic Albums Live. Founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, Classic Albums Live has become a popular mainstay at performing arts
centers across the country by taking classic albums and faithfully recreating them live on stage – note for note, cut for cut. This show is presented by US Bank.
Emmylou Harris

With a career that spans more than four decades, singer-songwriter Emmylou Harris will return to the Ordway in October for an intimate concert. A Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, Emmylou has recorded more than 25 albums, been awarded 14 GRAMMY Awards® including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award and has lent her talents to countless fellow artists’ recordings.
Gladys Knight
Thursday, October 18
Gladys Knight will bring her legendary artistry to Ordway audiences. A seven-time GRAMMY Award® winner, she has enjoyed #1 hits in pop, gospel, R&B and adult contemporary and been featured in both film and television during her more than 50-year-long career.
Maria Bamford
Saturday, October 20
In late October, comedian Maria Bamford will bring her standup to the Ordway. A Minnesota native, Bamford is the creator and star of the semi-autobiographical Netflix comedy series Lady Dynamite, lauded as “revelatory” by Entertainment Weekly and one of 2016’s must-see shows by Variety and Rolling Stone. She is the creator and star of Maria Bamford: the Special Special Special and the cult hit web series The Maria Bamford Show, and has appeared in numerous series including Arrested Development and Fresh Off the Boat.
Ramsey Lewis and Urban Knights

The Ordway will welcome GRAMMY Award® winning jazz artist Ramsey Lewis and his longtime band, the
Urban Knights. An iconic leader in the contemporary jazz movement for more than 50 years, Lewis’ unforgettable sound and personality have also allowed him to crossover to the pop and R&B charts. This show is presented by the Ordway in collaboration with the Dakota.
Adam Pascal & Anthony Rapp: Acoustically Speaking
Saturday, October 27
In this intimate acoustic show, Broadway giants Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp will deliver solo sets
featuring both Broadway and pop hits that have influenced their lives. The evening will be capped off by performances of a few of the iconic hits from the beginning of their 20-year friendship: RENT.
