SHAKOPEE, Minn., (Jun. 25, 2013) Celebrate your Scottish heritage at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival during the Highland Fling weekend September 7 and 8. The Scottish Village will host a Kilt Competition, Scottish Vendors and the Highland Heavy Games Championships.
The Highland game competitions have been a staple at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival with a combination of modern and ancient strength gaming practices. So get your game face on whether you come to cheer on your fellow patrons or compete in the games yourself! The Championship will be a series consisting of nine different events that include the 22 lb Stone of Strength of Strength, 16 lb Stone of Strength, 56 lb Weight Throw, 28 b Weight Throw, Caber Toss, Heavy Hammer Throw, Light Hammer Throw, and 56 lb Weight for Height.
The Village will also feature special vendors unique to the Highland Fling. The Clan Donald of Minnesota, the Minnesota Coalition of Scottish Clans, the Celtic Croft and other local Scottish groups will be in the Village. There will also be vendors selling authentic Scottish cuisine, traditional wood carvings and more!
It wouldnt be a Scottish party without Scottish dancers. Grab a beer from the Pavilion and watch as The Minnesota Scottish Celtic Dance and royal Scottish Dance Society take the stage showing us their awesome Irish Jigs or Sword Dances as they dance to the bagpipes at 1:30pm and 3:30pm!
The Minnesota Renaissance Festival 43rd season begins on Saturday, August 17 and ends on September 29, 2013. The Festival is open weekends; Labor Day and Festival Friday, September 27, 2013 open from 9 a.m. 7 p.m., rain or shine. The Festival is located three miles south of Shakopee on Hwy 169.
