Renaissance Festival 2013: 9th annual Wine and Chocolate Weekend Sept. 14-15
Indulge in the Sweetness of Wine & Chocolate!
SHAKOPEE, Minn., (August 2, 2013) Treat yourself during one of our sweet events this weekend at the 9th Annual Wine and Chocolate Weekend on September 14 and 15 at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. The weekend features events such as the Cupcake Battle, Chocolate Pie Eating Contest, Free Vow Renewals, Grape Stomping and more!
The Special Events Field will feature local wineries and chocolatiers sampling and selling delicious treats to all patrons who stop by! Kent Benson, a certified wine educator, will be demonstrating how to detect and assess two common attributes to wines at 11:30am and 2pm in the Field and two lucky patrons will be picked from the audience to help! Watch a demo of the Wyne Tasting Game at 2:30pm and stick around for a short seminar on the History of Chocolate by Dove Discoveries.
For the serious chocolate lover, a Chocolate Pie Eating Contest will take place in the Special Events Field at 1pm. The patron who can eat their pie the fastest will win a prize! Patrons can also win prizes in the Best Bloomer Competition daily at 12:30pm. For those that want to work like true peasants from the Renaissance era, a Grape Stomp will be held in the Special Events Field at 4pm each day.
New to the 2013 season we are hosting a Cupcake Battle in the Special Events field for both amateur and professional bakers. The Judges will be provided by the Arts International institute of Minnesota: Culinary School. The top 10 cupcakes will be judged on the Special Events Stage at 3:30pm. Fallowing the judging the award ceremony, for the best cupcake in the realm, will be held at 4:00pm, in the Special Events Field.
The Wine and Chocolate weekend wouldnt be complete without FREE wine! Sample wine from Sutter Home Wines during one of the free tastings on the Pavilion Stage at 12pm, 1:30pm and 4:30pm. If patrons enjoy what they have tasted, they can help fund breast cancer research by purchasing a glass of wine! Sutter Home Wines and City of Hope have partnered with the Renaissance Festival so a portion of the proceeds from every glass of wine purchased at the Festival will benefit breast cancer research. Those with a preference for making wine can test their skills at the Homemade Wine Competition on Sunday, September 16 from 12pm to 3pm by the Pavilion, presented by the Purple Foot Club.
Free Vow Renewals will also be held all weekend for our patrons! Daily at 11am and 4pm, couples can renew their love and receive a flower and certificate to commemorate the affair.
This weekend will also host the 23rd Annual Charity Auction! 100 percent of the proceeds benefit Can-Do Canines, a non-profit organization that provides assistance dogs to individuals with disabilities for free.
Everyone can participate in the live auction at 3pm by bidding on great prize packages featuring weekend getaways, family fun events, hotel stays, local restaurants and more!
The Wine and Chocolate Weekend is sure to be a treat to all those who want to indulge in some sweet romance and fun. By order of his Majesty King Henry and the State of Minnesota all patrons must have a valid ID to participate in alcohol-related events. No exceptions.
The Minnesota Renaissance Festival is a first-class experience whose 43rd season begins on Saturday, August 17 and runs till September 29, 2013. The Festival is open weekends, Labor Day and a special day for schools and seniors on Festival Friday, Sept. 27th, 2013 open from 9 a.m. 7 p.m., rain or shine. The Festival is located three miles south of Shakopee on Hwy 169. Price of admission is $21.95 for adults; $12.95 for children 5 12; $19.95 for seniors; four and under is free; dogs $10.00 with registration. Discount tickets are sold at participating Walgreens, Menards, Whole Foods Market and Super America stores.
