Registration Deadline on Oct. 10 for Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation's Starting Five Program
Minneapolis/St. Paul For the 13th season, the Minnesota Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation is offering its Read to Achieve Starting Five program that aims to help young people develop a lifelong love of reading. Minnesota schools and classrooms interested in participating in this free program should register online at www.timberwolves.com/nba-starting-five-program by Friday, Oct. 10.
The 2014-15 Starting Five program begins on November 3 and runs through January 5. During this time, participating students track the number of pages they read at home, working toward the goal of reading 500 or more pages total. Every student who reaches this goal will receive Timberwolves prizes and a buy-one-get-one ticket offer for a Wolves game during the 2014-15 season.
The annual Read to Achieve program supports the education and literacy platform of the NBA and FastBreak Foundation. Over the past 12 seasons, students from more than 1,500 schools across Minnesota have read more than 13 million pages through this program. Every March, the FastBreak Foundation recognizes Read to Achieve month where it specifically focuses on youth reading initiatives. During the month, the Foundation hosts several outreach events, including Read to Achieve night where the programs top readers are recognized during an on-court presentation at a Wolves home game.
