WHAT: More than 500 people will gather in the Rotunda on Sunday, Nov. 1 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s PurpleLight ceremony.
The lights in Mall of America will dim at 7 p.m. and individuals will illuminate purple glow sticks as they hear names of their loved ones who have fought and lost the battle to or are currently battling pancreatic cancer read aloud.
The ceremony commences National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November.
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest five-year survival rate of all major cancers at just six percent. This year, more than 46,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States and more than 39,500 will die from the disease. There are no early detection methods and few effective treatment options exist.
