PURPLE WEEKEND, FATHER JOHN MISTY, SECOND FLEET FOXES SHOW ADDED, AND MORE

First Avenue is set to host a weekend to celebrate and honor the Purple One. On April 21 and 22, the Mainroom opens for Late Night Dance Parties with special guest DJs including DJ Espada, DJ Jake Rudh (Transmission), DJ Keezy, Shannon Blowtorch, and more. Head outdoors Saturday for a Memorial Street Party presented by First Avenue and 89.3 The Current. Minneapolis musicians will perform on 7th Street between North First Avenue and Hennepin Avenue. The weekend closes with I Would Dance 4 U – A Kids Dance Party on Sunday, April 23 in the First Avenue Mainroom.

Relentless cultural pontificator Father John Misty just released his third studio album, Pure Comedy, and will embark on an international tour to support the new record. Pitchfork notes the album “presents a sprawling double-feature: the skewering of an infantile generation, and the self-skewering of its author.” Father John Misty headlines the Surly Brewing Festival Field on August 19 with special guest Tennis.

Fleet Foxes’ first show at the Palace Theatre on September 30 is sold out, but a second headlining gig has been added on October 1. The band’s third studio album Crack Up is due out June 16, quickly followed by an international tour in support of the new record in the summer and fall. Tickets for the October 1 show go on sale this Friday, April 14.

Minnesota native John McCarten (AKAManic Focus) returns to Minneapolis to headline a show in the Mainroom on Saturday, April 15 with special guests TheSpvceAge, Maddy O’Neal, and Guggenz. He’ll be celebrating his upcoming album; get a preview of his new direction with the single “Putting All of My People On (feat. ProbCause)”.
