Public Warned about Phone Scam
BLOOMINGTON, Minn., (July 11, 2012) Mall of America® is issuing a warning about a telephone scam that has surfaced within the past 24 hours. The Mall has received several reports of individuals receiving phone calls purporting to be from Mall of America.
In some instances the caller ID may appear to originate from Mall of America and the callers have fraudulently identified themselves as representatives of the Mall. The caller may offer to assist with renewing a magazine subscription or some other service. On occasion the caller has known the last four digits of the individuals credit card number.
These calls do not originate from Mall of America which has a strict policy against initiating unsolicited calls to the public.
I am outraged that scammers would target the unsuspecting public in this way, said Rich Hoge, vice president of operations. Mall of America is committed to doing all we can to protect the privacy of all individuals. It is important for anyone who may receive a call like this to understand that the Mall will never ask for your personal information in this manner. If you do receive one of these calls never share any personal information with the caller. Please also be sure to report the incident to your credit card issuer as well as Mall of America.
Mall representatives also stated that the public should always be wary of providing personal information such as the individuals Social Security number, bank account information and credit card information.

Some phishing emails may also have attachments or links to a site with malware that can infect your computer. If you receive a suspicious email, do not click on any links or open any attachments.
