A new take on a classic mystery thriller
St. Paul, Minn., June 5, 2014 The tradition summer mysteries continues at Park Square Theatre this summer with the Theatres the world premiere commission of The RED Box based on the book by Rex Stout, adapted for the stage by Joseph Goodrich, directed by Peter Moore. E. J Subkoviak takes on the role of Nero Wolfe and Sam Pearson as Wolfes right-hand man Archie Goodwin.
A lovely young woman is dead and the fortunes of a theatrical producer depend on slaving the mystery. The police are not getting anywhere, so its time to call Nero Wolfe and eccentric detective genius who rarely leaves his comfortable brownstone in Manhattan. While tending his 10,000 orchids and enjoying fine cuisine, Wolfe and his wisecracking sidekick Archie solve a crime that seems unsolvable.
THE RED BOX offers a new take on a classic Nero Wolfe mystery a perfect for summertime diversion. And while there have been adaptations for television, this is the first stage play based on a Nero Wolfe tale. Written by Minnesota native Joseph Goodrich, whose Panic won the Edgar Award for best mystery play, this new work will bring the famously eccentric detective genius to life on Park Squares proscenium stage. Both Joseph Goodrich and Rex Stouts daughter Barbara Bradbury will attend the opening night performance.
THE RED BOX cast includes E.J. Subkoviak* (Nero Wolfe), Sam Pearson (Archie Goodwin), Nicholas Leeman (Lew Frost), Rebecca Wilson (Helen Frost), Susanne Egli*(Calida Frost), James Cada*(Dudley Frost), Bob Malos (Boyden McNair), Jim Pounds (Rene Gebert/Fritz Brenner) and Michael Paul Levin* (Inspector Cramer). * Member AEA.
