One-night-only show to celebrate the musical legacy of Joni Mitchell
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Sept. 7, 2016) — The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is excited to present Painting Joni – Celebrating the Music of a Master on Sunday, Oct. 16. This one-night-only performance, featuring Lori Dokken and friends, will celebrate the music of singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell through live performances of some of her greatest works. Tickets, which are on sale now, start at $25 and can be purchased online at www.ordway.org, by phone at 651-224-4222 or in person at the Ordway ticket office.
A self-described “painter derailed by circumstance” and hailed by Rolling Stone as “one of the greatest songwriters ever,” Joni Mitchell’s music paints social and environmental issues using a poetic style while addressing the universal feelings of romantic longing, loss, disillusion and joy. A nine-time Grammy award winner, along with seven other nominations, Mitchell’s music blazed new trails in the industry with her unique open tunings, alternative harmonic structure and lyrical styling that touches the hearts of all who hear it.
Featuring beloved Twin Cities singer and pianist Lori Dokken, Painting Joni will highlight some of Mitchell’s most popular works, including “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Both Sides Now,” “A Case of You,” “The Circle Game” and more. The show also features vocalists Judi Vinar, Rachel Holder Hennig and Jacy Smith, along with Pete Hennig on drums, Jeff Bailey on bass and Dan Caton on guitar.
