Celtic group brings traditional Irish music to St. Paul stage on St. Patricks Day
SAINT PAUL, Minn. (Feb. 16, 2015) The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts will celebrate St. Patricks Day with Celtic music super group, Cherish the Ladies, for a one-night-only performance on Tuesday, March 17. The show, which will take place in the new Concert Hall, is part of the Ordways World Music and Dance Series. Tickets start at $23 (including fees) and can be purchased online at www.ordway.org, by phone at 651-224-4222 or in person at the Ordway ticket office.
Hailed by The Boston Globe as a leading group in the Irish traditional world, the all-female ensemble uses a blend of beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements and dynamic step dancing to bring the best facets of traditional Irish music and culture to the stage. Under the leadership of world-renowned flute and whistle champion Joanie Madden, Cherish the Ladies has become one of the most successful and sought after Irish-American Celtic music groups in the world.
Every member of Cherish the Ladies is a virtuoso at what they do, creating an immensely entertaining experience for the audience, said Dayna Martinez, Ordways artistic director of World Music & Dance. Were thrilled to be able to bring such a highly-regarded group to St. Paul on the biggest Irish holiday of the year. There isnt a better way to celebrate St. Patricks Day than by spending the evening with one of the top Celtic ensembles in the world and on the newly-completed Concert Hall stage!
Cherish the Ladies will be joined on stage by special guest vocalist, two-time Grammy nominee Maura O'Connell, as well as world champion step dancers and Riverdance alumni. The March 17 performance is part of the groups 30th anniversary tour.
Cherish the Ladies performance is also part of Rock the Ordway: 22 Days of Opening Nights, a celebration marking the grand opening of the new state-of-the-art Concert Hall at the Ordway. Rock the Ordway is organized by The Arts Partnership, a nonprofit collaboration among the Minnesota Opera, Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) and The Schubert Club.
