ST. PAUL, Minn. (June 26, 2014) The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts announced today that it will host two screenings of Sing-a-Long-a Grease, July 30-31 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $29, with discounts for groups of 10 or more. Sing-a-Long-a Grease is a screening of the popular 1978 movie musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, complete with on-screen lyrics so the whole audience can sing along. The event begins with the host leading a song and dance warm-up and walking the audience through their complimentary Magic Moments Fun Packs filled with props to be used at strategic points throughout the movie. The event also includes a costume contest with prizes. Costumes are not required, but are highly encouraged. Sing-a-long-a Grease is an interactive event for the entire family. Some attendees choose to dress up, sing along and dance around, while others sit back and enjoy the show.
Released by Paramount Pictures in 1978, Grease is the movie musical version of the 1971 stage musical of the same name. The film stars John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing and Jeff Conaway. Despite having a budget of only $6 million, Grease was an immediate box office success, grossing $8.9 million in its opening weekend. To date, Grease has taken in over $394 million worldwide and is the highest-grossing movie musical of all time in the U.S. Its soundtrack was the second-best-selling album of 1978, behind the soundtrack of another Travolta film, Saturday Night Fever.
