Ordway Center for the Performing Arts presents Elf The Musical, December 5-30
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Nov. 21, 2018) — This winter, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is excited to present Elf The Musical, on stage Dec. 5-30. This modern-day Christmas classic is produced by NETworks Presentations, LLC, Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures and Unique Features. Tickets are available now and can be purchased online at Ordway.org, by phone at 651-224-4222 or in-person at the Ordway ticket office.
“We’re happy to welcome our friends from the touring company of Elf The Musical back to the Twin Cities, who will make the Ordway their home away from home this holiday season,” said Rod Kaats, Ordway Producing Artistic Director. “They’re here because they have important and necessary work to do: help us discover our ‘inner elf!’ Back by popular demand, this is a laugh-out-loud show that the whole family can enjoy.”
ELF is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit, ELF features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone). The production will feature direction by Sam Scalamoni and choreography by Connor Gallagher.
The New York Times says that ELF is “A SPLASHY, PEPPY, SUGAR-SPRINKLED HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT!” USA Today calls ELF “ENDEARINGLY GOOFY!” Variety proclaims, “ELF is happy enough for families, savvy enough for city kids and plenty smart for adults!”
