North Star College Cup Schedule Change at Xcel Energy Center
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The third annual North Star College Cup will see a shift in the tournament schedule, moving to a Saturday - Sunday format, as Minnesota, Bemidji State, Minnesota State and St. Cloud State battle for in-state bragging rights at Xcel Energy Center in downtown Saint Paul.
The four-team tournament will kick off on Saturday, Jan. 30 with Minnesota State and St. Cloud State facing off at 1 p.m. followed by Minnesota and defending tournament champion Bemidji State at 4 p.m. The second day of competition will take place on Sunday, Jan. 31 with the consolation game at 1 p.m. followed by the championship contest at 4 p.m.
Now in its third year, the North Star College Cup has provided plenty of excitement for fans of all five Division I college hockey programs in Minnesota. The Gophers captured the inaugural title in 2014 in a dramatic shootout victory while the Beavers brought home the tournament title in 2015 after goalie Michael Bitzer stopped 54 of 55 shots over the weekend in route to tournament MVP honors.
