MINNESOTA WILD RE-SIGNS FORWARD KEVIN FIALA TO A TWO-YEAR CONTRACT
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has re-signed forward Kevin Fiala (pronounced fee-A-lah) to a two-year, $6 million contract ($2.5 million in 2019-20 and $3.5 million in 2020-21).
Fiala, 23 (7/22/96), recorded 39 points (13-26=39) and 36 penalty minutes (PIM) in 83 games last season with the Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators. He set career highs in assists, PIM, games played and TOI/game (15:38) and was one of three players in the NHL to play in more than 82 games last season. Fiala was acquired by Minnesota from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Mikael Granlund on Feb. 25, 2019 and tallied seven points (3-4=7) in 19 games with the Wild. He recorded his 100th career point with two assists vs. the New York Rangers on March 16 and skated in his 200th NHL game against Montreal on Feb. 14.
The 5-foot-10, 193-pound native of St. Gallen, Switzerland, owns 104 points (48-56=104) in 223 career games during parts of five NHL seasons with Nashville and Minnesota (2014-19). He has collected six points (5-1=6) in 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Fiala became the sixth-youngest player in NHL history to appear in a postseason game on April 21, 2015 (18 years, 273 days). In 2014 with Switzerland, he became the third player to appear in the Under-18 World Championship, World Junior Championship and World Championship all in the same year. The Predators selected Fiala in the first round (11th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
