MINNESOTA WILD FANCAM UNVEILED AT XCEL ENERGY CENTER
Fans that attended the home opener on Oct. 14 against the Columbus Blue Jackets can prove they were there by using Fancam, a super high resolution 360-degree image that shows every attending fan in "face-level" detail. It is created by taking hundreds of zoomed in, overlapping pictures and then 'stitching' them together into a single 360-degree experience. A branded tagging interface is overlaid onto the image, allowing fans to tag themselves and share with family and friends on social media platforms.
"Fancam takes the electricity of a game night at Xcel Energy Center and allows our fans to interact with each other, and relive their Wild experiences together, in a completely new way," said Phil Ervin, Minnesota Wild Digital Managing Editor and Content Strategist.
Automated cameras are configured in Xcel Energy Center to capture every fan in one image. The Wild Fancam at Xcel Energy Center is 152,199 pixels wide and 76,659 pixels high, producing a total file size of 12 gigapixels (if printed at billboard quality, it would be the length of just over two hockey rinks). The Xcel Energy Center is the seventh venue that has installed Fancam. Fancam will be used at every Minnesota Wild home game during the 2017-18 season.
A new Fancam image will be released on Wild.com and the team's social media platforms following each home game this season. The images will be available at wild.com/fancam.
"Given our Minnesota roots, Fancam is thrilled to be working with the Wild all season long, providing every fan in the State of Hockey selfie-level content when they come to games this season," said Michael Proman, Managing Director, North America Fancam.
Fancam's global headquarters are located in Cape Town, South Africa, and its North America headquarters are located in Minneapolis, Minn.
