MINNESOTA WILD ANNOUNCES
2015 PLAYOFF SPIRIT CONTEST WINNERS
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Wild announced today that Westview Elementary in Apple Valley, Minn., and Minnewaska Area Elementary of Glenwood, Minn., are the two winning schools of the first-ever Wild Playoff Spirit" contest. A total of 80 schools entered the contest, which ran for just three days from April 29 - May 1.
"Our students and staff are so proud to be chosen the greater Minnesota winner of the 'Wild Playoff Spirit' contest," said Linda Schmidt, principal of Minnewaska Area Elementary School. "Our school has such great spirit for all of our sports teams, but it has been especially fun to show our support for the Minnesota Wild as they continue their quest for the 2015 NHL Stanley Cup. Everyone was so excited to sign the banner and pose for the picture on our playground, but you should have heard the cheers when we announced that we were one of the winners of the contest!"
"Just like the Wild, Westview worked together as a team to come up with our photo idea," said Principal Tami Staloch-Schultz. "We had many staff and students collaborating together to make the photo a success. We are so excited that we get to have our WILDest dreams come true!"
Minnewaska Area Elementary will receive a Wild team-autographed State of Hockey flag to display in their school or community. Westview Elementary has won a pep rally with Wild mascot Nordy that will take place this Wednesday, May 6 at 3 p.m. in the school's gymnasium, where all students will also receive official Round 2 Playoff Rally Towels.
"Each school demonstrated incredible enthusiasm, creativity and team spirit," said Wild Vice President of Brand Content and Communications John Maher, who along with colleagues selected the top entries. "It was certainly difficult to pick two winners as all of the entries were really impressive and unique."
The contest was open to schools across the State of Hockey in support of the Minnesota Wild's run in the 2015 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Wild playoff spirit could be demonstrated any number of ways utilizing Minnesota Wild slogans, colors, memorabilia or player photos and creativity.
