On Sunday, March 4, the Minnesota Orchestra and Assistant Conductor Akiko Fujimoto perform Stories in Music, a Family Concert at Orchestra Hall. The concert, which is designed for audience members of all ages, features two of the Minnesota Orchestra’s own—Principal Tuba Steven Campbell and piccolo player Roma Duncan—and music by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, William Grant Still and Michael Daugherty. The Orchestra also performs the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, but with a special, sports-inspired twist, thanks to the hilarious antics of composer P.D.Q. Bach. Joining the Orchestra onstage for this unique performance are Minnesota Public Radio host Lynne Warfel, Twin Cities actors Stephen Yoakam and H. Adam Harris, and MacPhail faculty member Katherine Condon.

This Minnesota Orchestra concert is held at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m., with all tickets priced at $12. Akiko Fujimoto, conductor

Akiko Fujimoto became the Minnesota Orchestra’s assistant conductor in September 2017. In this role, she leads Young People’s Concerts, Symphonic Adventures concerts for high school students, family programs and outdoor community concerts, while also serving as cover conductor for classical subscription and Live at Orchestra Hall performances. Additionally, she serves as a link to the community, participating in engagement activities, school visits, and collaborations with other Minnesota arts and cultural institutions. She previously served for five full seasons as the associate conductor of the San Antonio Symphony, where she conducted classical, pops, education and baroque concerts, as well as ballets.
