Minnesota Orchestra's "Inside the Classics" coming this March
MINNESOTA ORCHESTRA “INSIDE THE CLASSICS” CONCERT FEATURES BARTÓK’S CONCERTO FOR ORCHESTRA
Casual series at Orchestra Hall is led by conductor Sarah Hicks and hosted by Sam Bergman
March 3 concert explores Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra and features music by a variety of other European composers
Inside the Classics, the Minnesota Orchestra’s casual series that explores great classical works through performances and enlightening conversation, continues its eighth season on March 3, with a program titled Bartók’s Farewell. The concert shines a spotlight on one of the great orchestral masterpieces of the 20th century, Béla Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra, written in 1943 for the Boston Symphony and its famed music director, Serge Koussevitsky. On the first half of the program, Orchestra violist and host Sam Bergman and conductor Sarah Hicks explain and demonstrate Hungarian musical ideas that permeated Bartók's music and music by other central European composers like Kodály and Janáček, as well as the folk music that became a central influence on these composers. After intermission, the Orchestra will give a complete performance of Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra.
The concert is performed at the Orchestra’s home venue in downtown Minneapolis, Orchestra Hall, on Friday, March 3, at 8 p.m., with single tickets priced at $30, $20 for patrons under the age of 40 and $12 for students with a valid ID. Subscriptions and individual tickets for all 2016-17 season concerts are available online at minnesotaorchestra.org and by phone at 612-371-5656. For more details on purchasing tickets, refer to the information section at the conclusion of this press release.
