Minnesota Lynx Begin Lynx Cares Season Kickoff
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL As a part of "Road to Repeat" and WNBA Cares, the Minnesota Lynx will begin its Lynx Cares Season Kickoff on Wednesday, May 16. During Lynx Cares, the Lynx will highlight the organizations continued commitment to the community through programs which focus on education, youth, family development, health and wellness throughout the Twin Cities.
Lynx Cares begins on Wednesday, May 16 at 2:45 p.m. when forward Maya Moore hosts a Reading Time-Out, supported by Hennepin County Medical Center, at Elizabeth Hall International Elementary School as a part of the WNBA's Read to Achieve program. Alongside Lynx Radios John Focke, Moore will read a book to a class of fourth and fifth grade students. Afterward, she will hand out books and posters to the class, as well as participate in a Q&A session. Through the creation and execution of educational programs like Read to Achieve, the WNBA and its teams and players demonstrate their commitment to support education initiatives.
The following day, Thursday, May 17, from 1-4 p.m., the Timberwolves and Lynx office will participate in a staff volunteer day with Minnesota Teen Challenge, a program assisting to restore hope in teens and adults struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Staff members will be working alongside teens from the program to improve the facilities through a variety of projects.
Finally, on Friday, May 18 from 10-11 a.m., Devereaux Peters, Jess Adair and Prowl will end Lynx Cares by hosting a FIT clinic, supported by General Mills, at FAIR school in downtown Minneapolis. As part of the leagues FIT platform, which encourages physical activity and healthy living, the players will demonstrate some fun exercises to help get the kids involved and will also talk about the importance of healthy eating habits.
The 2011 WNBA Champion Lynx will kick off their title defense with the team's Home Opener, presented by General Mills, on Sunday, May 20 at 11:30 a.m. at Target Center against the Phoenix Mercury on ABC. Lower-level tickets are available for as little as $10 a game for the 17-game home season and can be purchased by calling 612-673-8400 or visiting the Lynx website at www.lynxbasketball.com.
