Minnesota Governor Proclaims April 24th, Finisher Shirt Friday
Day Set Aside to Celebrate Running, Achievement, and Community
St. Paul, Minn. April 22, 2015 Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has proclaimed Friday, April 24 Finisher Shirt Friday in the state at the request of Twin Cities In Motion (TCM), organizers of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and year-round running events in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
The proclamation, which will be posted on the Governors Office website later this week, notes Minnesota residents recognized commitment to health and fitness, the coming of spring which finds people showing renewed passion for outdoor fitness activities, and the role event finisher shirts play as badges of honor and symbols of personal achievement in the community.
The Finisher Shirt Friday proclamation also spotlights this weeks Boston Marathon, where more than 500 Minnesotans finished in the event, one of the most prestigious endurance events in the world.
We appreciate the governors recognition of race finishers and all they represent through this proclamation, Twin Cities In Motion executive director Virginia Brophy Achman said. Runners often see their accomplishments as private, personal achievements, but individual triumphs also serve a community-building purpose which we are honored the governor has again acknowledged and emphasized.
New this year, Minnesota cities are encouraged to see which municipalities will have the most citizens don finisher shirts on April 24. Participants in the Finisher Shirt Friday City Challenge are asked to note where theyre tweeting from by using the hashtag #FSFmycity in addition to the events official #FinisherShirtFriday hashtag.
To participate, Twin Cities In Motion invites runners to:
- Wear their favorite finisher shirts on Friday to celebrate and inspire
- Join the conversation using the hashtag #FinisherShirtFriday
- Share photos via social media, tagging TCM on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
- Use the hashtag #FSFmycity and list their location for the City Challenge
- Share inspiring finisher stories using the hashtag #Myfinisherstory
- Post online for a chance to win great prizes.
