Today, Meet Minneapolis announced an official partnership with People Of Color Careers™. As an Equity Hiring Partner, Meet Minneapolis will use the platform to prospect, network, recruit, and ultimately hire top talent of color to help fill open positions within the organization. Knowing real action and change is needed to significantly move the needle forward in workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion, Meet Minneapolis is proud to stand alongside other leading corporations on the PeopleOfColorCareers.com platform to collectively make the shift into the future of DEI hiring in the Minneapolis region and across the country.
“From the board and staff levels, our organization’s core values have always incorporated inclusivity. However, after the murder of George Floyd, our team expressed an even stronger desire to develop and formalize targeted social justice and racial reconciliation initiatives,” said Meet Minneapolis President & CEO Melvin Tennant. “Fostering difficult conversations, building new partnerships and creating a pathway for people of color to advance their careers within our industry is vital to all of us. As an organization representing an industry with an increasingly diverse customer base, we must respond with a workforce reflecting that diversity. Partnering with People Of Color Careers is an important added component to the work Meet Minneapolis is doing as an organization.”
“Until People of Color are represented in rooms where decisions are made, real change will not occur. That’s why we developed the People Of Color Careers™ platform, The Professional Network for People of Color,” stated Sharon Smith-Akinsanya, Rae Mackenzie Group CEO and founder of People Of Color Careers. “We aim to facilitate professionals of color connecting with hiring managers and recruiters at top companies. Our platform is designed with Black professionals and other professionals of color in mind, intended to help effectively identify employers who are serious about increasing racial inclusivity at all levels of their organizational structure.”
With the announcement today, Meet Minneapolis joins U.S. Bank, Thrivent, Midco, Andersen Windows & Doors, NBA Timberwolves/WNBA Lynx, Make-A-Wish® America, Minute Media, The Players Tribune, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Children’s Minnesota, and other leading corporations on the PeopleOfColorCareers.com™ platform. In addition to the partnership with People Of Color Careers, Meet Minneapolis launched the Meet Minneapolis Legacy Project in the summer of 2020. Its mission is to develop targeted social justice and racial reconciliation initiatives for Meet Minneapolis team members and the broader hospitality/tourism industry. Part of that work is to assist in rebuilding and restoring hospitality industry workers, local businesses and the community at large. Through the Meet Minneapolis Legacy Project, the organization reinforces that the local hospitality industry is a major economic and social contributor to the community in prosperous and in challenging times.
