BLOOMINGTON, Minn., - For the fourth consecutive year, Mall of America® won the Wellness by Design Award for excellence in promoting worksite wellness. The awards, presented at a June 21 award ceremony at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, Minn., recognized employers who made employee health a priority and acknowledged their creative and effective wellness policies and programs.

After discovering that many full-time employees werent taking advantage of preventative screening services that are 100 percent covered through health insurance, Mall of America implemented on-site biometric screenings for employees. Medical premiums were based on results from the screenings. The more points a team member received based on their biometric health screening, the better the premium rate. Overall, there was a 97 percent participation rate, which was up 14 percent from 2011.

We realize changes do not happen overnight, but Mall of America chose to implement this new program to create a healthy lifestyle and mindset for team members, said Jennifer Swanson, Employee Wellness and Safety Manager at Mall of America. MOA wants to reward employees for making positive lifestyle changes.

Mall of America has placed the last four years in Wellness by Design winning a bronze placing in 2009, a silver placing in 2010 and a gold placing in 2011.

A total of 78 organizations in Hennepin County have won 2012 Wellness by Design Awards for excellence. The awards are presented in four award levels to Hennepin County worksites that demonstrate accomplishments in management support, wellness infrastructure, assessment and evaluation, supportive environments, communication and engagement and programs and interventions.
