Mall of America will illuminate purple for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's PurpleLight Ceremony
Mall of America® will illuminate purple for
Pancreatic Cancer Action Networks PurpleLight Ceremony
WHAT: Mall of America® will illuminate purple on Sunday, Oct. 26 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Networks PurpleLight ceremony. More than 500 people will gather in the Rotunda where all lights will be turned off allowing a purple glow to radiate throughout the space in memory and in honor of those who have fought and lost the battle to or are currently battling pancreatic cancer. The ceremony will commence National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in November.
The event will begin with a welcome from Mayo Clinic MD, Katrina Pedersen, who will share how she personally has been affected by pancreatic cancer and provide the latest on research being done for the deadly disease.
Following Pedersen, a name reading will begin where survivors, families and friends in attendance will be asked to stand and illuminate their purple glow stick at the time their or their loved ones name is read.
Pancreatic cancer has the lowest five-year survival rate of all major cancers at just six percent. This year, more than 46,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States and more than 39,500 will die from the disease. There are no early detection methods and few effective treatment options exist.
Those interested in participating are encouraged to register for the event at www.purplelight.org. For more information, visit www.mallofamerica.com/events.
