Mall of America® celebrates World Diabetes Week
with a Guinness World Record
WHAT: One in three American adults will be affected by diabetes by the year 2050. Novo Nordisk, JDRF and the American Diabetes Association will join together to raise awareness of World Diabetes Week at Mall of America® by breaking a Guinness World Record on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The World Diabetes Week Health Fair will take place Wednesday, Nov. 12 and Thursday, Nov. 13 in the Rotunda, featuring the newest technologies in managing Type 1 diabetes.
Friday Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15, guests will have the chance to meet several celebrities who live with Type 1 diabetes and hear their stories. Indy race car driver Charlie Kimball will meet with fans and speak about how he manages to compete at the highest level despite having diabetes. His replica Indy race car will be on display in the Rotunda for fan photos.
Other celebrities include professional bicyclist Rebecca Furuta, who will share her story, sign autographs and host an interactive spin bike demonstration in the Rotunda. Additionally, Food Network Chef Dana Herbert will host cooking demonstrations and discuss healthy eating habits for those living with Type 1 diabetes.
The event will conclude on Saturday, Nov. 15 when participants will lace up for diabetes by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the most people simultaneously tying their shoes.
