JazzMN Orchestra Announces Fundraiser at the Dakota
Hot Band, Great Food, and a Worthy Cause
Minneapolis, August 6, 2013 -- The JazzMN Orchestra will make a rare club performance at the Dakota with proceeds benefiting JazzMNs educational outreach program. The event is set for Wednesday, September 18, at 7:00 p.m. at the Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant, 1010 Nicollet Mall, in downtown Minneapolis.
JazzMNs educational outreach program is central to its mission to promote the jazz art form. The program fosters opportunities for students to learn and experience jazz through sponsored clinics, master classes, and the opportunity to play alongside professional artists. This exposure may lead to a future in the arts or simply forge a lifelong appreciation of jazz.
JazzMN patrons have long desired to hear the band outside the concert hall, said Artistic Director Doug Snapp. The Dakotas intimate setting, the searing band let loose and Connie Evingson's fabulous vocal stylings will fulfill that desire. In addition, the Dakota atmosphere offers more room for soloists like Dave Karr, Pete Whitman, Kathy Jensen, Dave Jensen and Dave Graf to play, while Joe Pulice drives the band.
Music begins at 7:00 p.m.; guests are encouraged to arrive at 6:00 p.m. to enjoy the Dakotas award-winning menu, which will feature a JazzMN special dinner creation for the evening.
Tickets are $50 per person (dinner not included) and are available through the Dakota box office at 612-332-5299 or www.dakotacooks.com. Jazz fans may choose their seating at the time of purchase. As an added bonus, the first 100 tickets sold will include a special JazzMN Orchestra token of appreciation which will be given out on the night of the concert.
The JazzMN Orchestra, the Twin Cities' premier professional jazz ensemble, performs a broad range of jazz repertoire spanning classic and contemporary styles, showcasing outstanding musicians from throughout the region, and featuring world-class guest artists. Formed as a nonprofit arts organization in 1998, JazzMN, Inc. supports its mission to promote excellence in the jazz art form through performance, preservation and educational outreach.
