Alexander is a family friend of the Lees and worked in New York with Linda Tally Lee, Carls wife. Carl died on Tuesday, Nov. 5 after battling a long illness related to persistent complications resulting from radiation treatment for Hodgkin's disease when he was a teenager. Lee, was not only smart and compassionate, but beloved in the Twin Cities community and beyond as the nicest man ever. He worked at Hennepin Theatre Trust from 2007-2013 and previously spent five years as Director of Marketing for the Minnesota Opera. An Iron Range native, Carl began his career as a singer, actor and performer and also lived and worked in New York and California before returning to Minnesota to raise a family.
An Evening with Jason Alexander and His Hair is a comedy variety show that features stand-up comedy, music, improvisation and audience participation. Alexander portrayed the much-loved character George Costanza from the hit show Seinfeld, universally and ironically referred to as the show about nothing, a series whose popularity has had an endless reign. Beyond Seinfeld, Alexanders diverse career encompasses art forms from Broadways live stage to comedy, film, television and directing.
His Broadway debut came in the original production of Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along and he starred on Broadway five times. Alexander was eventually hired to write the libretto for
Jerome Robbins Broadway, in which he also played 14 different characters and in the process earned the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Tony Awards. Audiences have enjoyed his numerous
stage performances, most notably his acclaimed run alongside Martin Short in Mel Brook's The Producers. His film credits include the box office smash hit Pretty Woman, as well as Shallow Hal, The
Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, North and The Paper. Alexanders other television works include guest starring on the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm and Dream On, for which he was nominated
for an Emmy.
Jason has been honored many times for his dedication to the arts. These awards include the Tony Award, seven Emmy nominations, four Golden Globe nominations, the American Television Award, two American Comedy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series, Best Actor in a comedy series voted by Screen Actors Guild and the Julie Harris Award for Lifetime achievement by the Actors Fund.
