It starts with one can for Canstruction at Mall of America®
WHAT: One in 10 Minnesotans is at risk for hunger. Each year, low-income Minnesota residents miss a staggering 100 million meals. Thats 10 missed meals a month for every child, adult and senior.
To raise awareness and aid in this issue, Canstruction, a national charity competition organized by the Society for Design Administration and the American Institute of Architects, will return to Mall of America®. Life-size structures made solely out of canned and packaged food items by local design teams will be on display for guests Saturday, Oct. 5 Monday, Oct. 7 in Sears Court.
The winning canstruction piece will be announced on Sunday, Oct. 6 at a ceremony beginning at 3 p.m.
At the end of the competition, every can and food product will be donated to Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank in Saint Paul. Mall guests who want to bring canned goods or cash donations can bring the items to the Sears Court stage area at any time during the three-day event.
Since 1992, Canstruction has contributed more than 17.5 million pounds of food to community banks demonstrating the fight against hunger. Canstruction takes place in 50 cities throughout North America each year and highlights the creativity and compassion of top architectural and engineering firms.
