Hennepin Theatre Trust and Bank of America "Unveil" New Mural

Hennepin Theatre Trust and Bank of America Unveil New Public Mural on Hennepin Avenue
A 25-foot vertical mosaic garden will take root on former Solera building
Minneapolis, MN (Sept. 9, 2016)—Hennepin Theatre Trust, in collaboration with Bank of America, has announced the completion of a new creative greening project in WeDo™ – the West Downtown MPLS Cultural District. A 25-foot vertical mosaic garden has been installed and is on display now on the street-facing side of the former Solera building located at 900 Hennepin Ave., next to the historic Orpheum Theatre. Three rows of programmable LED lighting frame a living garden above a community-made mosaic mural.
Bank of America, a long time environmental steward, is also committed to efforts around community revitalization and sought the opportunity to further showcase the arts and cultural initiatives taking place in the Twin Cities by collaborating with Hennepin Theatre Trust.
“We support Hennepin Theatre Trust in their efforts to transform how people experience public spaces on Hennepin Avenue,” said Larry Kloth, Bank of America Minnesota market president. “The vertical mosaic garden is a beautiful example of public art adding value to a neighborhood and a community—Bank of America is proud to be part of such an impactful project.”
Tom Hoch, Hennepin Theatre Trust President/CEO said that collaborations like this can uncover unique opportunities that transform how people experience public spaces. “We know it takes a village to make downtown Minneapolis a destination for everyone. Bank of America’s support of arts, culture and the environment is making a difference in how people experience WeDo.”
The creative greening project is made possible by a grant from Bank of America. Damon Faber is the landscape architect for the greening portion and Arteka Companies is the landscape installation provider. Hennepin Theatre Trust and Bank of America volunteers, with additional community members, constructed the mosaic mural, designed and created by mosaic artist and Trust staff member Bailey Cahlander.
ABOUT HENNEPIN THEATRE TRUST
Hennepin Theatre Trust is a nonprofit organization that creates positive change through the arts by bringing together people, businesses and organizations in WeDo™, the West Downtown MPLS Cultural District, to create and enjoy cultural experiences.
We want everyone who comes to WeDo™ to have a unique experience. Our historic theatres – the Orpheum, State and Pantages – light up Hennepin Avenue with a mix of modern acts and artists. Local talent fills our New Century Theatre. Our Spotlight Education program inspires high school students through musical theatre.
Beyond our theatre doors, we connect people to unexpected arts and cultural experiences like the iconic Bob Dylan mural and our art-in-underused spaces project, Made Here. Our collaborations with businesses, artists, local officials and other arts and culture organizations bring a wide range of quality activities and entertainment to WeDo™.
