(Minneapolis/St. Paul) The Guthrie Theater today announced the cast and creative team for David Goldsteins moving drama Skiing on Broken Glass. The play premiered in the 2010 Minnesota Fringe Festival to sold-out crowds and was selected for the Fringe Encore series. Guthrie Artistic Director Joe Dowling helms a new, expanded version of the play featuring additional characters and accompanying storylines. Skiing on Broken Glass begins performances in the Dowling Studio on October 29.
Mark Alexander (Michael Booth, Guthrie: Much Ado About Nothing, Arsenic and Old Lace) is a lonely writer still hurting from his partner's death some years before. Then he meets Todd (David Darrow in his Guthrie debut), an enigmatic young male escort whose charm and resilience attract and impress Mark, but whose past remains murky. After Todd has a nearly fatal accident, Mark is determined to help him out. Soon the two find themselves in an unlikely relationship that neither really understandsand that will either heal them both or tear them to shreds.
Skiing on Broken Glass also features the talents of Michelle ONeill (Guthrie: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Winter's Tale) in the role of EdithMarks longtime friend and confidanteand Bill McCallum (Guthrie: Clybourne Park, Time Stands Still) as Thomas, Ediths high-powered fiancé.
The artistic team includes Michael Hoover (Set Designer), Christine A. Richardson (Costume Designer), Ryan Connealy (Lighting Designer), Montana Johnson (Sound Designer), Jo Holcomb (Dramaturg) and Justin Hossle (Stage Manager).
Skiing on Broken Glass begins preview performances on October 29, opens November 1 and continues through November 17 in the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie Theater.
