FIRST AVENUE WEEKLY PRESS RELEASE
Jazz saxophone powerhouse Kamasi Washington returns with a new EP, Harmony of Difference, the follow-up to his widely celebrated 2015 release The Epic. He’s been busy collaborating with musical powerhouses like Kendrick Lamar, Run The Jewels, and John Legend to name a few, and has plans for a 2018 sophomore album following the release of this 2017 EP. Washington recently told Pitchfork, “My hope is that witnessing the beautiful harmony created by merging different musical melodies will help people realize the beauty in our own differences” (statement via Pitchfork). See him in the Mainroom on November 9.
The Bloody Beetroots just announced the “My Name is Thunder” North American tour, their first live shows in North America in over three years. Billboard says, “The Bloody Beetroots' Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo is celebrating 10 years of faithful service to the electro scene. His wild, rock-tinged sound has made ears ring from every corner of the world, and has led to collaborations with dance and rock icons alike, from Steve Aoki to Paul McCartney, Peter Frampton, and more.” See The Bloody Beetroots Live at First Avenue on Saturday, November 4.
This week’s featured event:
Minneapolis new wave rockers of the 1970s The Suburbs return to First Avenue this Friday to celebrate the release of their new album Hey Muse! and their 40th Anniversary as a band. We've been blasting The Suburbs' for as long as we can remember, and their seventh studio album is no exception. Hey Muse! hearkens back to the old days musically, but frontman Chan Poling's maturing lyrics acknowledge that things are changing. There's much to celebrate with them on August 4 in the Mainroom.
Please see the attached show listings release for all newly announced shows and updates.
