FIRST AVENUE WEEKLY PRESS RELEASE: Tuesday, September 3, 2019
JUST ANNOUNCED:
Crafting ethereal electronic R&B evoking the heyday of Tricky and Massive Attack and the spare aesthetic of The xx, London's FKA twigs is the project of Tahliah Barnett, a half-Jamaican native of Gloucestershire, United Kingdom. Upon the announce of her upcoming release of Magdalene and accompanying tour, Barnett took to Twitter to tell her fans, “preparing the MAGDALENE show has been my most ambitious undertaking, and the thought of sharing it with a wider audience is thrilling.” FKA twigs – Magdalene is at the Palace Theatre on Thursday, November 14.
Prog-rock quartet Coheed and Cambria have been working on their epic sci-fi saga, The Armory Wars, for over 16 years. That is, each album released by the band is yet another installment in the story—including their most recent release, The Unheavenly Creatures. “What we’re doing is weird,” frontman Claudio Sanchez told Rolling Stone, “concept records in themselves are not weird, but for a band to continue a concept over their discography can be a little intimidating.” Coheed and Cambria perform in the Mainroom with special guests Saint Asonia on Thursday, November 21.
The name Hot Tuna invokes as many different moods and reactions as there are Hot Tuna fans—millions of them. To some, it is a reminder of some wild and happy times. To others, that name will forever be linked to their own discovery of the power and depth of American blues and roots music. To newer fans, Hot Tuna is a tight, masterful duo on the cutting edge of great music. Join us at the Fitzgerald Theater on Saturday, December 14 for Hot Tuna’s Acoustic 50th Anniversary plus special guests Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams.
FEATURED SHOW:
John Reis and Rick Froberg of Hot Snakes have been making noises together since high school. Their current lean, mean swagger is heavily influenced by the duo's past lives (ahem, bands)—from the post-hardcore Pitchfork to the multi-faceted arrangements of Drive Like Jehu. Reis and Froberg are responsible for some of the most turbulent rock and roll of their, or any, generation. Last year marked the release of Hot Snakes' first album in 14 years, Jericho Siren. Don't miss them at the Fine Line on Friday, September 6 with Des Demonas and Green/Blue!
