FIRST AVENUE WEEKLY PRESS RELEASE: Tuesday, September 17, 2019
JUST ANNOUNCED:
Nearly three years since their last record, alt-country rockers Wilco announce their 11th studio album, Ode to Joy, due October 4. Singer & guitarist Jeff Tweedy describes the album as filled with, “really big, big folk songs—these monolithic, brutal structures that these delicate feelings are hung on.” Wilco’s Ode to Joy tour includes a three-show run at the Palace Theatre on November 22, 23, and 24.
Tove Lo (unofficially dubbed “The Saddest Girl in Sweden”) enjoys squashing every pop star label she’s been given. “You’re supposed to speak for everyone. You’re supposed to not swear. You’re supposed to make sure you don’t do anything that will provoke anyone too much—that just pisses me off and makes me want to do it more.” Tove Lo’s Sunshine Kitty Tour makes a stop at the Palace Theatre with Alma on February 20, 2020.
With their 2000 debut album The Swiss Army Romance, Dashboard Confessional emerged as a vital voice, reshaping the musical landscape for years to come. Singer-songwriter Chris Carrabba’s skill for blending introspective songcraft with unchecked punk intensity established him as a force. Dashboard Confessional are set to release their first-ever “best-of” album and commemorate this milestone with a 20-year celebration tour—including a stop at First Avenue with The Get Up Kids on February 25, 2020.
FEATURED SHOW:
"Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes has one of those voices—a voice that is obedient to her soul and gut instincts. A voice that will seemingly fold space around you and create new dimensions if she wills it. Simply put, Brittany Howard has a voice without limits" -Afropunk. Howard brings her new solo project to St. Paul’s Palace Theatre with MonoNeon on September 19.
