First Avenue’s Annual Halloween Party & Costume Contest, Danny Brown, Kim Petras, plus The Midnight
Tuesday, September 10, 2019
JUST ANNOUNCED:
First Avenue’s Annual Halloween Party & Costume Contest returns on, you guessed it, October 31. Be sure to bring your costume A-game—we’ll be giving away over $1,000 in cash prizes! Sets by DJ Espada, Mike2600, Rowsheen, DJ Smitty, and Roy Freedom will keep you dancing all night. Join hosts Christy Taylor and Jordan of Go 96.3 for the best Halloween party in town. Let’s get spooky!
After dropping a reported $70,000 on samples for his 2016 album Atrocity Exhibition (including a sample from Joy Division’s “Atrocity Exhibition”), Danny Brown teased that his next album would have an iconic caretaker. That producer has since been revealed to be trailblazing A Tribe Called Quest frontman Q-Tip. Fresh off the debut of his comedy talk show Danny’s House, Brown’s latest album uknowhatimsayin¿ is set to be released on October 4 on Warp Records. Don’t miss Danny Brown’s return to First Avenue on November 5 with Ashnikko and ZelooperZ.
Kim Petras’ undeniable voice and imaginative artistry have skyrocketed her to international recognition as one of music’s most promising talents. Her most recent project, Clarity, introduces a personal, grounded sound, kicking off with the song “Broken,” and catapulting her into the Top 10 of the iTunes Pop Chart and starting Petras’ streak of dominating both Spotify and Apple Music playlists. Kim Petras returns to the Twin Cities after a sold-out Fine Line show in June—this time, at Saint Paul’s Palace Theatre on Saturday, November 30.
FEATURED SHOW:
The Midnight is a duo comprised of Tyler Lyle, a songwriter from the deep South, and Tim McEwan, a producer from Denmark. Their distinct brand of synth-pop is soaked in the neon haze of 1980s arcades and cinematic nostalgia. Touring in support of their newest album, Kids, The Midnight is sure to bring a show that is equal parts danceable and wistfully sentimental. Catch them at First Avenue on Monday, September 16 with Flamingosis.
